Cabins & Cottages for a Coastal Vacation in North Carolina

The beach towns, fishing villages and numerous islands along the coast of North Carolina attract visitors who come for vacations of all kinds - fishing, golfing, family fun and exploring the great outdoors are common themes. Cabin and cottage rentals make an excellent choice for many, and the coastal region of the state has ample options to consider. Some are notable for their unmatched locations, such as within national parks or directly on the beach front They range from rustic to luxurious.

Clemon's Cottage

Clemon's Cottage (clemonscottage.com) is located in the waterfront area of Old Town Manteo on Roanoke Island. The shops, restaurants and attractions of the town, including the Roanoke Island Festival Park, a movie theater, and the Elizabeth II ship and museum, are all within a short walk. The beaches of the island's east coast are a few minutes' drive away The private, two-bedroom cottage's quaint features include a picket fenced yard, two bicycles for guests to use, and a garden with an arbor entryway, Adirondack chairs and barbecue equipment Inside, the cottage features hardwood and the flooring throughout a fully equipped kitchen and a living room with plush armchairs and a rocking chair, a flat-screen television and board games.

Cape Lookout National Seashore

The National Park Service (nps.gov) offers cabin rentals in two locations within Cape Lookout National Seashore - Great Island on South Core Banks and Long Point on North Core Banks. Cape Lookout National Seashore, four barrier islands three miles from the North Carolina coast protects 56 miles of unspoiled beaches, historic districts, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, and habitats for wild horses, endangered sea turtles and numerous shorebird species. The cabins are open seasonally from the end of March to the end of November, and advance reservations are required. The rustic cabins accommodate four to 12 guests in bunk-style beds and include a kitchen with a propane oven/stove, private bathroom and hot water heater; some have a screened porch or deck. Guests need to bring bedding, an ice chest for food storage and cookware.

Rena's Cottage

Rena's Cottage (renascotlage.com) is located in Wanchese, a quiet fishing village on Roanoke Island. Walking distance of the Broad Creek Fishing Center, it is ideally located for fishing vacation. It features three bedrooms and additional hide-a-beds in the living room and sun room, as well as a full kitchen and a large, fenced-in yard. A swing seat on the shaded front porch adds to the comfortable ambiance and inspires relation. Facilities include high-speed Intemet access, central air conditoning, a laundry room and a gas barbecue on the side deck. The cottage is available year-round for weekly rentals, and rates are reduced considerably from September to May.
